Heatmaps for geolocated data


Another intuitive mapping style is static heatmapping.

This form of heatmap often poses further, more valuable questions that can then be explored. For example "Why are so many people in the western suburbs of Sydney buying/using my product ? What else do I need to do anything to take advantage of this trend?" Similarly one may ask "Why aren't the eastern suburbs buying ? what should I do to turn this around"

We can map any dataset in this manner, examples include:

  • Petrol Sales
  • General goods sales
  • Website traffic
  • Populations growths
  • Membership demography (eg sports clubs)
  • Crime data, where are the hotspots?
  • Health and disease data, such as cancer incident clusters
